Fresh coconut ground with chillies and tempered with mustard seeds — the classic South Indian condiment.
Ingredients
- 1 cup fresh/frozen grated coconut
- 2 green chillies
- 1 small piece ginger
- 1/4 cup roasted chana dal
- Salt to taste
- For tempering: 1 tsp mustard seeds, 1 tsp urad dal, curry leaves, 1 dried red chilli, 1 tsp oil
Method
- Blend coconut, green chillies, ginger, roasted chana dal and salt with a little water to smooth paste.
- Heat oil, add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
- Add urad dal, curry leaves and dried red chilli.
- Pour tempering over chutney.
- Mix and serve alongside dosa, idli or vada.
