Fresh coconut ground with chillies and tempered with mustard seeds — the classic South Indian condiment.

Method

  1. Blend coconut, green chillies, ginger, roasted chana dal and salt with a little water to smooth paste.
  2. Heat oil, add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  3. Add urad dal, curry leaves and dried red chilli.
  4. Pour tempering over chutney.
  5. Mix and serve alongside dosa, idli or vada.
