Hearty South Indian vegetable and lentil stew cooked with freshly ground coconut and spices — a Tamil Nadu staple.
Ingredients
2 cups raw banana or yam cubed
1 cup toor dal cooked
1 cup grated coconut
1 tsp cumin
3 dried red chillies
Mustard seeds
Curry leaves
Urad dal
Salt
Method
Cook vegetable until tender. Grind coconut with cumin and chillies. Add cooked dal and coconut paste to vegetables. Simmer 10 minutes. Temper with mustard, urad dal and curry leaves.
