Tangy rice coated in a robust tamarind-chilli paste tempered with peanuts and mustard seeds.
Ingredients
- 3 cups cooked rice
- 1 lemon-sized tamarind ball
- 2 dried red chillies
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp urad dal
- 1 tsp chana dal
- 2 tbsp peanuts
- Curry leaves
- 1/4 tsp turmeric
- 2 tbsp sesame oil
- Salt to taste
Method
- Extract thick tamarind juice in 1/2 cup water.
- Heat oil, fry peanuts until golden. Remove.
- In same oil, add mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal and curry leaves.
- Add dried chillies and turmeric.
- Pour tamarind juice and cook until thick paste forms.
- Add cooked rice and mix gently.
- Add salt and roasted peanuts. Mix well and serve.
